River Chase Equestrian Center FAQs

Answers to the most common questions about horse boarding, riding lessons, and guided trail rides at River Chase Equestrian Center in Aldie, Virginia — a full-service equestrian facility in the heart of Loudoun County and Northern Virginia horse country.

Horse Care & Boarding

Q: How does River Chase Farm manage daily turnout and pasture access?

A: Boarded horses at River Chase Equestrian Center are turned out daily, weather
permitting, across more than 100 acres of maintained, board-fenced paddocks. We offer
both private, semi private and group turnout. Turnout schedules adjust with Northern Virginia's seasonal weather to protect both footing and herd health.

Q: What are the vaccination and Coggins requirements for boarding a horse?

A: Every horse boarded at River Chase Farm must meet a minimum health baseline set by the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). This includes core vaccinations (such as rabies, tetanus, EEE/WEE, and West Nile) plus risk-based vaccinations that protect overall herd immunity, along with a current negative Coggins test. Contact us for the full, up-to-date requirement list before move-in.

Q. Can I use my own veterinarian, farrier, and equine dentist?

A: Yes. Boarders at River Chase are welcome to use their own veterinarian, farrier, and equine dentist, or choose from the barn's trusted, recommended professionals. We coordinate scheduling either way so your horse stays on a consistent care routine.

Riding Lessons

Q: Do you have lesson horses suited to my riding level?

A: Yes. River Chase Equestrian Center maintains a large string of school horses matched to every skill level, from first-time beginners to advancing competitive riders. Because the right horse depends on your experience and goals, contact us so we can pair you with the best match for your lessons.

Q: What is your lesson cancellation and weather policy?

A: Northern Virginia weather can be unpredictable. River Chase boasts a 100' x 200' indoor arena to keep lessons running smoothly year-round. Lessons are only canceled or rescheduled during extreme heat, freezing temperatures, or thunder and lightning. We notify riders as early as possible and offer make-up options when a lesson is canceled.

Q: Can I lease or show your school horses?

A: Yes. Riders ready to progress beyond weekly lessons can take a partial lease on one of our school horses, and we travel to local schooling shows and area circuits throughout the season. It's a low-cost way to gain experience before committing to horse ownership. Contact us to discuss lease availability and the show schedule.

Guided Trail Rides

Q: Are your trail rides guided, and do you allow galloping?

A: All trail rides at River Chase Equestrian Center are fully guided by an experienced trail leader, and they are walk-only for the safety of riders and the preservation of our Northern Virginia trails. A walking pace protects inexperienced riders and prevents trail erosion. Ask us about advanced rides that may allow trotting or cantering for qualified, experienced riders.

Q: What happens to trail rides during summer heat or bad weather?

A: Contact us and we'll help you plan your ride according to weather changes.

Q: Are there weight limits and age restrictions for trail rides?

A: Contact us to discuss your specific needs. No double-riding: for insurance and safety reasons, two riders on one horse (including a parent and child) is not permitted. Contact River Chase Equestrian Center before you book and we'll help you plan the right ride.
